Dear Evergreen Families,
We hope this email finds you refreshed and excited for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year! We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to our returning students and families, as well as students and families new to our Evergreen School community. We cannot wait for students’ smiles, laughter, energy, and curiosity to fill our hallways and classrooms once again.
As we approach the start of the new school year, we understand that some of you (students and families) may be feeling nervous and anxious. It is completely normal to have these feelings, especially after a long break or if this is a new school for you. You may be wondering, “Who is my teacher going to be? Will I make friends? Where is the bathroom? Is grade 4 going to hard? Where do I eat lunch?” While these questions are natural, please know that we are here to support you every step of the way as we learn, grow, and create wonderful memories together throughout the year.

Our dedicated staff have been tirelessly preparing for your return. This year promises exciting opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom. Thanks to our School Council and Parent Advisory Council, we have a number of residencies and events scheduled designed to ignite curiosity, foster creativity, and instill a love for lifelong learning. There is a lot of important information included in this e-mail, please read carefully through to the end where we share important information for the first day of school.
We are excited to partner with YellowSteps for a unique place-based learning residency that will take students beyond the classroom walls and into our local community. Through hands-on exploration, storytelling, mapping, journaling, and fieldwork experiences, students will investigate the spaces around their school and community with curiosity and purpose, making meaningful connections between their learning and the world around them. Designed to align with curriculum outcomes, this residency encourages student voice, choice, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving. By exploring their community through a new lens, students will develop a stronger sense of belonging and deepen their understanding of place. We look forward to seeing our students grow as explorers, thinkers, and active members of their community.
We are also excited to welcome the Calgary Youth Singers to Evergreen School. During this residency, students will work alongside a professional music director and choreographer to develop singing, movement, and performance skills while exploring creativity, confidence, and self-expression. Through engaging theatre arts activities and a dynamic repertoire that includes Broadway favourites and uplifting popular songs, students will experience the joy of performing as part of a team. The residency will culminate in a Showcase Performance, providing students with an authentic opportunity to share their learning and celebrate their accomplishments. We look forward to seeing our students shine on stage!
SoundKreations will be returning to our school for an engaging in-school residency that combines movement, creativity, and student expression. Designed by educators and artists, this program provides age-appropriate dance and poetry experiences for all grade levels, helping students develop physical literacy, support their mental well-being, and explore the creative process in meaningful ways. By incorporating current youth culture, creative movement, and artistic expression, the residency encourages participation from every student while fostering confidence, collaboration, and a love of learning. We look forward to seeing our students grow, create, and have fun through this dynamic experience.
Evergreen School is excited to welcome the Calgary Flames Classroom Crew for a multi-day residency focused on active living, skill development, and the joy of sport. Led by a team of trained instructors, students will participate in engaging floor hockey and flag football sessions designed to build confidence, teamwork, and fundamental movement skills in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment. Through hands-on instruction and game play, students will develop an appreciation for physical activity while learning the rules, strategies, and skills of each sport. The program is designed to foster a lifelong love of sports and healthy living, while ensuring all students have the opportunity to participate and experience success. We are grateful for this opportunity to bring high-quality athletic programming to our school and look forward to seeing our students learn, grow, and stay active together.

Important Information for the First Day
Please find important information below to answer any initial questions you might have:
Who is my homeroom teacher?
Students/families will receive an e-mail from their homeroom teacher on Thursday, August 27th around 4pm welcoming them to the school and their grade-team. If you have not received an e-mail by 6pm, please check your junk folder as sometimes e-mails end up there. If you still do not find an e-mail, please contact me at acmcphee@cbe.ab.ca.
Where should we go on the first morning, Monday, August 31st?
Please find attached below a map that highlights where your child will meet up with their grade and homeroom teacher on the first day of school.

Upon arriving at school on Monday morning, please proceed to your child’s designated grade area on the map and look for your homeroom teacher. Teachers will be at their designated area at 7:50 AM to greet students prior to entering the building at the 8:00 AM entry bell.
Kindergarten students and students in the EES program will have a staggered entry for the first two days of school. Information regarding staggered entry will be sent in a separate communication. The designated doors for students in Kindergarten and our EES program are the main front entrance doors.
Does my child have a designated door for entry and dismissal?
Your child’s designated door for entry for the first week of school and for dismissal for the remainder of the school year is shown on the map attached below.
Starting on Tuesday, September 8th, we will begin our “relaxed entry” routine in the mornings only. For those of you new to Evergreen School, relaxed entry allows for a smoother, less restrictive entry process. It reduces stress and congestion during morning arrivals by allowing students to enter the closest door between 7:50 am and 8:00am. This will provide for a more efficient flow of students into the building and prevent overcrowding at the doors. It also allows siblings to enter the school together.
Upon entering the school, students will make their way to their homeroom classrooms where teachers will be supervising until the 8:00 AM bell signaling the start of the school day. We encourage students to arrive in a staggered manner, avoiding the rush of everyone arriving at once. There is no supervision outside the school in the morning as teachers are inside supervising in their classrooms. Please do not arrive before 7:50am. School starts at 8:00am.
Dismissal of students at the end of the school day will continue to be from their designated doors. For ease of pick-up, siblings may exit via the same door. We are asking that the older sibling meet up and exit via the younger sibling’s designated dismissal door. Please reach out to your homeroom teacher if you would like your students to dismiss from the same door.
Where should I park when dropping off or picking up my child at school?
The best and safest place to park and drop your child off is along the south side of the school along Eversyde Close SW. At this time, we do not know how many school buses have been allocated to our school and we may need the entire length of the street at the front of the school to safely welcome our students who take buses. We also have a number of accessible buses for our students in our EES classes who require direct front door access for mobility reasons. There is no stopping at the front of our school at any time. What time does school start?
- Kindergarten:
AM Kindergarten: 8:00 AM Monday – Thursday and alternating AM Fridays
PM Kindergarten: 11:35 AM Monday to Thursday and 8:00 AM on alternating PM Fridays.
- Grades 1-5: 8:00 AM, M-F
What time does school dismiss?
- Kindergarten:
AM Kindergarten: 10:55 AM M-TH and 12:00 PM on alternating AM Fridays
PM Kindergarten: 2:30 PM M-TH and 12:00 PM on alternating PM Fridays
- Grades 1-5: 2:30 PM M-TH and 12:00 PM on early dismissal Fridays

What should I bring on my first day?
- indoor shoes with soft rubber soles suitable for Physical Education. Your child will leave these at the school.
- a backpack that is large enough to hold a large picture book
- a water bottle that will go home to be cleaned and refilled each day
- a healthy snack
- lunch (if your student stays for lunch)
- smiles and curiosity
Please note: all necessary learning supplies are provided by the school (crayons, pencils, paper, etc.). The associated fee for these materials will be communicated to you in September and posted to your MyCBE account for payment.
How will I find out important information about my child’s homeroom and the school?
- Information specific to your child’s homeroom will be communicated via e-mail from their teacher on Fridays.
- The “Evergreen Weekly” is sent on Sunday morning. The Evergreen Weekly includes information about school-wide events, important dates, news from our School Council, glimpses into learning etc.
- Important information and dates are posted to our school website. Make sure to add the link to your “favorites” for easy access and subscribe to the school calendar.
Are there forms I need to complete?
Yes, there are several mandatory forms you need to complete at the beginning of the school year. Please ensure that you read the information carefully and digitally complete the necessary forms in School Engage. For help on how to complete these forms please visit https://support.cbe.ab.ca/schoolengage-complete-form. We will send you an e-mail about which forms you need to complete in the first week.
We are busily working to process new registrations received over the summer and will be sharing our full staffing complement and configuration in the next couple of weeks.
