A heartfelt thank you to the many Evergreen families who joined us for our Open House! It was wonderful to see so many of you filling our hallways and classrooms, meeting your child’s teacher, seeing their learning spaces, and getting a glimpse into the exciting year ahead. These moments of connection are such an important part of building a strong school community. Thank you for taking the time to be with us, to connect with teachers and staff, and to share in your children’s learning. We are so grateful for the partnership between home and school and for the sense of belonging that is created when we come together as a community.

Fun Lunches are back! Thanks to our School Council and an amazing group of parent volunteers, Fun Lunches through Healthy Hunger are back for the 2026-2027 school year. To register your student(s) please visit the link below. The fun lunch program is set up through Healthy Hunger. Fun Lunches are a way for your child to enjoy meals from different restaurants around our city. The food is delivered to the school during lunch hour. Volunteers then distribute the orders to each classroom to ensure the kids can enjoy it while it’s still fresh! To enroll visit:
Sun-Oka Farms Apple Fundraiser: We have brought back the popular and delicious Apple Fundraiser again this year! Sun-Oka Farms is growing Honeycrisp & Ambrosia Apples for us and they will be delivered right to Evergreen School for pick up (date TBD). Orders are now open until October 6th 2026.

Physical Education Weekly Update: We have kicked off our 2026 Terry Fox School Run! Willa Marshall, an Ambassador from The Terry Fox Foundation presented a special assembly at our school! We are very proud to share Terry Fox’s story with our school community.
At the age of 18, Terry Fox was diagnosed with bone cancer and was forced to have his right leg amputated. Determined to help others suffering from cancer, he decided to run across Canada to raise funds for cancer research. Terry ran a marathon a day for 143 days before his cancer returned, forcing him to end his Marathon of Hope. Terry passed away on June 28, 1981, but his legacy had only just begun. Inspired by his perseverance, Canadians picked up his Marathon of Hope and continued running towards his goal, a dream of a world without cancer.
This year marks the 46th anniversary of Terry's Marathon of Hope, and Canadians from coast to coast are coming together for the "Finish It" campaign — a call to action to help finish what Terry started. Watch the powerful short film FINISH IT and be reminded of the impact one person can make. FINISH IT Terry Fox started a marathon against cancer. Together, we can end it.” Today, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $1 000 000 000 towards cancer research!
We will be participating in our School Terry Fox Run this Monday, September 21st! Our fundraising goal for this year is $1200. We are encouraging students to bring a “Toonie for Terry” on Monday to be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation, or if you choose to donate online here is the link to our school fundraising page! Live from the Music Room: Could you play Baa Baa Black Sheep or Hot Cross Buns on a xylophone? That's what our students in grades 2-3 have been doing this week. They are learning techniques for xylophone playing, as well as learning what the notes sound like on the musical scale (using both the language of Do-Re-Mi and C-D-E).
Our K's and 1's meanwhile have been singing and dancing with movement directions: left, right, backward, forward, up, down, and all around. We've been tapping rhythms on rhythm sticks and doing the "Choo-Choo-Train" song and dance around the Gathering Space.
Grade 5's are learning to identify the notes on the Musical Staff using the acronyms "FACE" and "Every Good Banana Deserves Fudge".
The grade 4's are preparing for Orange Shirt Day Assembly on September 29th by learning the song "Charlie" by Willie Dunn, a songwriter of mixed Mi'kmaq and Scottish-Irish ancestry. This moving song tells the true story of a child, Chanie (Charlie) Wenjack, who tried to escape his residential school. The students will perform the song together as a grade and are preparing a chant with body percussion as well. - Mr. Cohen, Music Teacher
Alberta’s Protection of Privacy Act: When situations occur at school that involve more than one student, families often want to understand all of the details. While we always aim to be transparent and responsive, schools are legally required to protect the privacy of every student and family.
Under Alberta’s Protection of Privacy Act, and AR1061 Responsible Care and Security of Information, schools cannot share personal information about another student or their family. Personal information includes things such as a student’s name, circumstances, behaviour history, supports they receive, or any details related to their family situation. This legislation exists to ensure that all students and families have their personal information protected and handled respectfully.
Because of this law, school staff are not permitted to discuss another student’s situation or the steps being taken with that student, even when incidents involve multiple children. What we can do is speak about how we are supporting your child, the expectations for student behaviour, and the actions the school takes to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
We appreciate that families want reassurance that situations are addressed appropriately. Please know that when concerns arise, the school works directly with the students and families involved to resolve issues, provide appropriate support, and ensure the well-being of everyone in the school community.
