Dear Evergreen Families,

At Evergreen School, buddy activities help build a strong sense of community by connecting students across grade levels. Through shared learning experiences, older students develop leadership, responsibility, and empathy while serving as positive role models for younger students. In turn, younger students gain confidence, support, and friendship. These meaningful connections foster belonging, encourage collaboration, and contribute to the caring and inclusive culture that makes Evergreen a wonderful place to learn and grow.

UPDATES AND INFORMATION

Calgary Flames Classroom Crew: We are thrilled to welcome the Calgary Flames Classroom Crew to our school next week.  Over several days, trained instructors will work with our students during physical education classes, teaching the fundamentals of floor hockey and flag football through engaging, hands-on activities.

The program provides all of the equipment needed and creates opportunities for students to develop their skills in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment. Through structured lessons and games, our students will learn teamwork, sportsmanship, perseverance, and the importance of staying active.

The Calgary Flames Classroom Crew residency is designed to foster a lifelong love of physical activity and healthy living, while ensuring that all students have access to high-quality sport experiences. T learn more about the program please visit:

Halloween Festivities: All students are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to school on Friday, October 30th if they would like.  Please ensure that costumes are school appropriate (no weapons or scary blood/gore). Please also consider that masks and other costume props may interfere with learning and students will be asked to remove them and/or put them with their backpacks for the day.  Please do not send any edible treats to school for your child to share with their classmates.  Due to the number of allergies at Evergreen School, we will not distribute any treats brought in and will return them with your child.  Thank you for keeping all our students safe.

Physical Education Weekly Update: Hello Evergreen Families!

On Monday, we will kick off our Calgary Flames Classroom Crew Residency! Here is a quick video to give you a glimpse of what students can expect over the four days: Calgary Flames Classroom Crew Video  We’re looking forward to a fun-filled week of hockey skills, drills, and games! A friendly reminder: Please ensure your student returns their Onsite Acknowledgement of Risk form so they can participate in this exciting experience. Let’s get ready for a great week on the ice… or, in our case, the gym!

-Mrs. Paterson, Physical Education Teacher

Live from the Music Room:  The drums were thundering in Evergreen's Music Room and Gathering Place this week. Our Grade 3's were learning marching rhythms while trying to drum beats with precision. Ms. Peers and Mr. McLaren's Grades 4 classes ended the music week with a game of Mystery Drum-Master, where students drummed in a circle and someone had to guess who was leading the drum rhythm of the group -- not an easy task!

Rather than marching, our Kindergarteners were dancing to a new song, "Ha! Ha! This a-way", where they slapped hands and did elbow swings with one partner after another. Grade 1 students each created their own Metamorphosis Song using the names of the life-cycle of the butterfly. Grade 5 continued perfecting their A-minor and C chords while playing along to Katie Perry's "Roar", and also learned the new F chord on the ukulele.

The Grade 2's listened to a famous piece of music and drew pictures to guess what story the song was telling.  There were lots of creative answers, and a small handful of students correctly guessed what the composer was thinking of. The mystery song's title will be revealed next week!  -Mr. Cohen, Music Teacher
