Dear Evergreen Families,

It was a busy week at Evergreen so there is much to share.  There are also a number of important year-end updates below.

We are grateful to our school community member Mr. Macky Raccah who spent the day on Thursday teaching our students about helmet safety.  Mr. Raccah highlighted the importance of protecting themselves every time they ride their bikes, scooter, skateboard etc. Students learned that while only 42% of Canadians over the age of 12 wear a bicycle helmet, helmets can reduce the risk of a head injury by more than 70%. Students were surprised to learn that children aged 10–14 account for 63% of bike-related hospitalizations and that 77% of bicycle injuries are caused by falls and other non-collision incidents, often due to loss of control, excessive speed, or poor road conditions. The presentation also emphasized that most bicycle injuries occur between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., making safe riding habits especially important after school. Students were reminded that Alberta law requires anyone under the age of 18 to wear a certified bicycle helmet while riding, and that both youth and parents can face fines if this law is not followed. Most importantly, students were encouraged to remember that wearing a helmet is a simple way to stay safe and that wearing a helmet is cool!  Ask your child about the 2-V-1 rule when fitting their helmet.

This week, our students had the opportunity to try a new sport for many of them, Flag Rugby! We were fortunate to welcome Breanne, who works with both Topp Kids and Rugby Alberta, to introduce students to this exciting game.  Rugby is a fast-paced invasion sport that emphasizes movement, teamwork, communication, and strategic play as teams work together to advance the ball down the field and score tries. Ask your child what a “try” is, how many points it is worth, and which direction players are allowed to pass the ball!  It was wonderful to see students embrace the challenge, showing great teamwork, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm. Our fields were filled with passing, high-fives, smiles, and plenty of rosy cheeks as students developed their skills and confidence throughout the sessions. The growth and improvement we saw in such a short period of time was impressive.  A sincere thank you to Breanne and Rugby Alberta for providing this engaging experience and giving our students the chance to learn and enjoy the game of Flag Rugby!

Pancake Breakfast: Evergreen School was full of western spirit on Friday as we gathered for a Stampede Pancake Breakfast hosted by our amazing School Council and the Calgary Stampede Batter Boys. Thanks to their generosity and community spirit, everyone enjoyed a hearty breakfast that brought our school community together in a joyful celebration.

Students participated in a variety of fun and engaging activities hosted by the SAM Centre, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to celebrating and preserving western heritage, cultures, and community spirit. Students had a blast trying their hand at traditional games including lasso tossing, a hobby horse obstacle course, and ring toss!

We were honoured to welcome two very special guests. Harry the Horse, the official mascot of the Calgary Stampede. Harry the Horse made his first public appearance in 1985, and has been charming Stampede audiences and on Friday morning our students ever since. We also welcomed Sarah O’Brien, the 2026 Calgary Stampede Princess.  Sarah is a Calgary native with a strong background in horsemanship and community involvement. She was selected as this year’s princess for her authenticity, warmth, and leadership which we saw firsthand as she interacted with students throughout the morning.

UPDATES AND INFORMATION

Father’s Day:  We wanted to give a “shout-out” to the dads, grandpas, uncles, stepdads, big brothers, mentors, and all the incredible father figures who play such an important role in the lives of our students.

At Evergreen, we recognize that families come in many forms, and that what matters most is the love, guidance, and encouragement that caring adults provide. Father figures help shape confidence, model resilience, and show up in so many ways.

Whether you're helping with homework, cheering from the sidelines, fixing bikes, packing lunches, or simply being there to listen, your impact is lasting and deeply appreciated.  Happy Father’s Day to all our Evergreen Father Figures!

Volunteers: As another wonderful school year comes to a close, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our volunteers. Whether you supported School Council initiatives, accompanied students on field trips, helped in classrooms, prepared learning materials, assisted with special events, or volunteered in countless other ways, your generosity of time and energy has made a meaningful difference in our school community.

Your support helps create enriching experiences for our students and strengthens the sense of community that makes our school such a special place to learn and grow. We are deeply grateful for your partnership, dedication, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it is needed.

Thank you for helping make this year such a success. We truly could not do it without you.

Thank You: Our staff were once again made to feel incredible special with treats organized by our School Council and baked by our wonderful school community on Thursday. Staff went home smiling with a box of delicious goodies to share over a cup of tea😊

Student Learning Materials:  Students will be bringing home all of their learning materials on Thursday and Friday this week. Please send a Ziplock bag and a plastic or reusable bag with your child on Thursday to manage all of their belongings.

Sports Day: Students will be participating in a variety of fun activities and games on the last day of school from 9am-10:30am.  Please ensure that they have sunscreen on and bring a hat and water bottle to school. School Council is generously supplying popsicles for our sports day. If you do not want your child to have a popsicle, please let their teacher know and send an alternative snack for them to enjoy.

Lost and Found: Lost and found items will be organized on tables inside the school starting on Monday, June 22^nd for parents to come and check at dismissal. Families will have a final opportunity to browse the lost and found outside on the school compound on the compound on Friday, June 26^th.  After this time items are bagged up and donated. 

Report Cards: Families can view, download or print online report cards for kindergarten to Grade 12 students June 25 – July 31, 2026 through MyCBE. Within MyCBE, families can also view student information, comments from your child's teacher, assignments and grades, and attendance information. 

Please note: After July 31, 2026, report cards will no longer be available to access in MyCBE.
