Evergreen Weekly for October 23rd
Dear Evergreen Families,
Thank you for coming to our student-learning conferences this past week. We hope it gave you an opportunity to see the progress your child is making so far this year and ask any questions you might have. Feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher at any time during the year if you have questions or concerns regarding their learning and progress.
We also wanted to extend a HUGE thank you to families who put on such a delicious spread for our teachers on Thursday evening. Thank you for your kindness and showing our teachers how much they are valued
UPDATES AND INFORMATION
Traffic Safety Concerns: A number of traffic related concerns have been brought forward by school community members. There is a great deal of traffic congestion in and around the school and at times unsafe driving practices have been observed during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up that put our students’ safety at risk. School staff will continue to approach families/community members who are putting the safety of our students at risk and are not following the rules of the Traffic Safety Act as outlined in the Traffic Safety Act, Use of Highway Rules of the Road and from the City of Calgary, Traffic Bylaw 26M96. We kindly request that staff are treated with kindness and respect as they are looking out for our students’ safety.
The City of Calgary has put out a number of excellent resources, one of which is a conversation guide that you can use with your child and a video on crosswalk safety. Both are linked below. Children learn by watching others, so your own safe travel behaviours can be one of the best ways to teach children about traffic safety skills. Children do not perceive traffic in the same way as adults. Their ability to understand and make decisions about when, where and how to travel safely changes as they grow and develop.

Halloween Festivities: All students are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to school on Monday, October 31st if they would like. Please ensure that costumes are school appropriate (no weapons or scary blood/gore). Please also consider that masks and other costume props may interfere with learning and students will be asked to remove them and/or put them with their backpacks for the day. Please do not send any edible treats to school for your child to share with their classmates. Due to the number of allergies at Evergreen School, we will not distribute any treats brought in and will return them with your child. Thank you for keeping all our students safe.
Volunteer Opportunities:
- Halloween Howl Dance: School Council needs some volunteers to help out for various shifts during the Halloween Howl dance to help with concession, pizza sales and clean-up. If you have tickets to the event and are able to take on a shift during the evening that would be spooktacular! Sign up below:
