Dear Evergreen Families,

It has been such a joy to see our students’ smiling faces and hear all about their summertime adventures this week! I’ve been making my way through classrooms, reconnecting with our returning students and getting to know those who are new to Evergreen School. Our youngest learners are already settling beautifully into the routines of kindergarten and are handling this exciting transition to school like true champs!

Across the school, teachers and students have been working together to review classroom and school expectations as we build routines that support both learning and well-being. Student voices are playing an important role as we create safe, caring, and inclusive classrooms and a strong school community where everyone feels they belong.

UPDATES AND INFORMATION

Behaviour Policy: At Evergreen we teach students about expected and unexpected behaviors.  This philosophy revolves around creating a positive and respectful environment where students understand and practice appropriate actions in various situations.  For more information about this philosophy please see our website.

Please also review the following CBE guiding documents:

  1. AR  6005 Student Code of Conduct
  2. AR 6006 Progressive Student Discipline
  3. Progressive Student Discipline Policy

Evergreen School Council Meeting: One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the School Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority. Our first School Council meeting of the year is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10th at 6:00pm.  We invite all families to join the meeting at the school and look forward to meeting some new faces.

We wanted to thank our school council for treating our teachers with delicious cinnamon buns during our first few days back.  The teachers were so appreciative, and we feel truly blessed to have such a supportive group of parent-volunteers on our School Council.

Open House: We invite you to meet your child’s teacher and see their classroom on Thursday, September 18th from 3:30pm-5:00pm.  This is an optional and informal drop-in time for those interested students and families.  Feel free to come anytime during the timeframe.  The open house is not designed for families to have specific conversations regarding their child.  If you have more detailed questions about your student’s current learning or want to share information with the teacher about your student’s learning needs, please reach out to your student’s teacher through email to set up a phone conversation or in person meeting.

Digital Citizenship: Technology plays an important role in learning at Evergreen School, and students are encouraged to use it to support and enhance their learning. Ensuring students’ safety online is a priority, and we teach them how to be responsible Digital Citizens who use technology safely, ethically, and effectively. Your child brought home our Admirable Use Policy for Technology, which teachers reviewed with students this past week.  Families are asked to review the policy together with their child, sign it, and return it to the school.  This is required for students to use technology at school. If you have any questions, please contact us at 403-777-6288.

We are looking forward to another amazing school year here at Evergreen School.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at acmcphee@cbe.ab.ca.

Have a wonderful rest of your Sunday.

Sincerely,

Angela, Kim and the Evergreen Staff
