Dear Evergreen Families,

We’ve had an exciting first full week of learning as students settled into routines, built connections with classmates, and explored engaging new topics. It’s been wonderful to see their curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm shine as the school year gets underway!

Students in grade 1 have started their Writer’s Workshop. Writer’s Workshop is a structured time each day where students develop their writing skills in a supportive and creative environment. During this time, students learn to express their ideas through writing by engaging in mini-lessons, independent writing, and sharing their work.  The focus is on helping students build confidence as writers, develop strong foundational skills like spelling and punctuation, and see themselves as authors with unique voices and ideas.  Grade 4 students are working on expanding their ideas and writing more complex, detailed sentences. Using picture prompts and whole-group brainstorming, they generate ideas and plan their writing. They also use color coding to ensure they include the who, what, when, where, and why in their sentences. Students have also been learning and building their vocabulary to help them structure their sentences effectively and add variety, making their writing more engaging and expressive.

We gathered as a school community for our Welcome Back assembly on Friday morning. Students watched highlights of the past two weeks at school as we connected with one another and celebrated the excitement of learning together.  To view a small clip of the assembly click the link below.

UPDATES AND INFORMATION

Save the Date Casino Volunteers: Every few years, Evergreen School hosts a casino fundraiser that brings in a significant amount of money  - upwards of $70,000, to support student learning. These funds help provide incredible resources and opportunities such as field trips, residencies, technology, and learning materials that enrich your child’s education.

To receive these funds, every volunteer shift must be filled. Thank you for helping us make these opportunities possible for our students!  Please save the dates below  (February 8 and 9, 2026) on your calendar and look for the sign-up opportunities later this year. Volunteers get golden tickets for priority seating at our Winter and Spring Concerts and the grade 5 farewell.

Apple Fundraiser: Our Evergreen School Council has launched their first fundraising campaign for the year.  Please see below for details.  Proceeds go directly towards amazing opportunities for students.

Open House: We invite you to meet your child’s teacher and see their classroom on Thursday, September 18th from 3:30pm-5:00pm.  This is an optional and informal drop-in time for those interested students and families.  Feel free to come anytime during the timeframe.  The open house is not designed for families to have specific conversations regarding their child.  If you have more detailed questions about your student’s current learning or want to share information with the teacher about your student’s learning needs, please reach out to your student’s teacher through email to set up a phone conversation or in person meeting.

Parent/Guardian Insights: We value your perspective and partnership in supporting your child’s learning. This past week you would have received a Parent Insights Form from your child’s teacher. This form gives you an opportunity to share important information about your child, such as their strengths, interests, and any areas where they may need extra support. Your insights help us better understand your child as a learner and guide us in creating a positive and meaningful school experience.  Please return the form as soon as possible to your child’s teacher.  Should they have further questions they will contact you.

Invite to Event | National Day for Truth & Reconciliation:  All staff, students, families, and friends are invited to continue their learning and show their support on Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at the Orange Shirt Day & National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event taking place at the Confluence Historic Site.
