Dear Evergreen Families,
Cst. M. Messenger #4757 with the Calgary Police Service and his team, along with Calgary Parking Authority, were supporting us on Thursday morning with traffic safety and parking violations in and around the school.
They wanted me to share with you their top concerns:
- Parents jaywalking with their kids, darting from in-between cars to cross the road to the school rather than reinforcing safe pedestrian practices with their kids by crossing at the crosswalks.
- Drivers not stopping at crosswalks to look for pedestrians and driving through them as pedestrians were crossing.
They will be investigating the possibility of installing traffic lights at the Fish Creek Boulevard and Everstone Drive crosswalk, as the current pedestrian lights were deemed insufficient to ensure safety.
UPDATES AND INFORMATION
Changes to Topp Kids Before and After School Care: Sadly, due to increases in student enrollment this year and projected for the 2026-2027 school year, we have to recoup the classroom space that Topp Kids currently uses for the Kindergarten Before and After School program next school year. As such, Topp Kids is no longer able to host a Kindergarten Before and After Care program within Evergreen School for the 2026-2027 school year. As a parent who relied on this service when my own kids were younger, I recognize the logistical impact this has on families and the challenge associate with finding childcare for kindergarten-aged children.
If you are seeking alternative care for the kindergarten year, you may use the Alberta Child Care Look-Up Tool found here:
http://www.humanservices.alberta.ca/oldfusion/childcarelookup.cfm.
Topp Kids will continue to run Before and After Care for students in grades 1-5 housed in our gym.
Have a wonderful rest of your Sunday!
Sincerely,
Angela, Kim and the Evergreen Staff
