Dear Evergreen Families,

As we begin the new year, we wanted to share a few gentle reminders to help keep our school community safe during entry and dismissal and with respect to school processes. Your cooperation makes a big difference, and we truly appreciate your support.

For the safety of all students and families, please note:

  • U-turns in and around school property are illegal and dangerous. We kindly ask that you take the extra minute or two to safely exit surrounding roads after drop-off and pick-up.
  • The bus zone is a no-parking zone at all times. Our EES students have different school hours and require direct access to the school due to mobility needs. We appreciate your understanding and respectful cooperation when staff ask vehicles to move.
  • Student drop-off and pick-up is not permitted in the school parking lot. For everyone’s safety, please do not enter the parking lot during entry or dismissal. The only exception is for families with an approved parking placard (also known as an accessible parking permit) displayed.
  • Relaxed entry begins at 7:50 a.m. Students should not arrive before this time unless they are accompanied by a supervising adult. There is no outdoor supervision prior to 7:50 a.m. Families are responsible for student safety and behaviour before this time.
  • Parents and guardians are not permitted to enter through relaxed entry doors and must sign in and out at the main office when in the building for any purpose. This is a safety rule and helps us maintain a safe and secure learning environment. If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher, please contact them to schedule an appointment.
  • This is a reminder that CBE Administrative Regulation AR6004 - Animals in Schools restricts animals on school property. Dogs are not permitted on school grounds except where expressly approved under AR6004 (e.g., service animals or authorized educational purposes).
  • Dismissal times and student pick-up: A gentle reminder that dismissal time is 2:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 12:00 p.m. on Fridays. To ensure student safety, we kindly ask that families arrive on time for pick-up, as the school does not have staff available to supervise students after dismissal. In emergency situations, please contact to the school office to let us know you will be late and your child will be brought to the front office to wait for you.

School processes previously communicated:

  • Email hours and staff communication: Your child’s teacher is the first point of contact regarding any questions or concerns you have with respect to their learning and well-being. E-mail is the best way to get in touch with your child’s teacher. Teachers are not regularly checking their e-mail during the school day as they are teaching and working with students. They will respond to e-mails before and after the school day.  If there is time sensitive information, please call the school office (403) 777-6288 to get this information to your child’s teacher.  Please be mindful that during the evening, teachers are taking care of their own families and e-mails sent after 4:00pm may not be seen until the following workday. Likewise, weekends are personal time and meant for relaxing and recharging; we want our teachers to maintain a healthy work-life balance. E-mails sent over the weekend may not be seen until Monday.  You should receive a response from your child’s teacher within two working days.
  • Personal Belongings at School: We kindly remind families that students should not bring toys or personal belongings to school unless it is for a special classroom activity organized by the teacher. On those occasions, items will be safely secured in the classroom.  Bringing items not needed for school can cause distractions, and the school cannot take responsibility for lost or damaged belongings. If personal items are brought and misused during the school day, they may be removed by staff. Students may also be asked to write a reflection explaining why the item was a distraction.  We ask for your support in helping your child understand what is appropriate to bring to school.

Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school a safe, caring, and welcoming place for all students. We are grateful for your cooperation.

Please be aware: Registration is not first-come, first-served.

  • Helpful links and resources

We proudly welcome students who are new to Canada. If your child is not a Canadian citizen, please review both our New to Canada page and the Kindergarten Registration Guide to understand the specific steps your family must follow. For assistance, call the CBE Welcome Centre at 403-817-7789.

7 Volunteers Still Needed!:  Our Casino fundraiser on Sunday February 8th and Monday, February 9th, 2026 still needs volunteers. This fundraiser only happens once every 2 years, and brings in around $80,000 directly to Evergreen School!

The volunteer positions are VERY simple - no knowledge of gambling or casinos is necessary. There are casino advisors present the entire time, and their job is to supervise and assist the volunteers. Casinos have volunteer groups every 2 days, so they are very experienced in helping and teaching!

Don't let “Manager” or “Supervisor” in the volunteer role title intimidate you! The workload is actually less in these roles, and there is no additional responsibility.

A free meal from the restaurant is included with your volunteer shift, along with free coffee/refreshments and limited snacks.

For every shift you sign up for, you will receive 2 reserved seats for the Spring Concert and Grade 5 farewell for the 2026 year. No rush or lining up to see your child for their performance. To thank you for volunteering, you and a guest can walk in, sit down, and be front and centre to the show!

The weeknight casino date can be challenging, especially for working parents. Grandparents, extended family, and friends are all welcome to volunteer - it doesn’t need to be a parent, and NO volunteer clearance is required. Casinos tables are open until 3am, but if the casino isn’t busy, they often close early - which means, there is a good chance volunteers are sent home before this time. Those later shifts might not end up being that long or that late!

Our last casino in 2024 brought $81,917 directly to Evergreen School. These funds were spent in the following ways for this school year:

5.0 Spending Approvals and Adjustments for the 2025-2026 school year

- Quickbooks Subscription - $300

- Treasurer Administrative Supplies - $15

- Curriculum Supplies and overspend - up to $800

- Lacrosse Residency - up to $10,500

- Quest Theatre - up to $13,000

- possibly of parents paying small fee to subsidize, so total could be less

- New learning materials/manipulatives and centers - up to $2500

- Technology - up to $2500

- Art Supplies - up to $1000

- Curriculum Supplies - up to $2500

- Busses for Field Trips - up to $6600

- Insurance: Alberta School Fundraising Association has a program through LloydSadd Insurance - $1000 annually

Without this fundraiser, Evergreen School would not be able to provide these extra learning opportunities and experiences for our students. These opportunities help to support our teachers and provide unique learning experiences for our students that make Evergreen School so amazing! This very successful fundraiser isn’t possible if we don’t have the volunteers.

Please visit the following link and consider volunteering for this once every 2 year event! Your time will help bring in tens of thousands of dollars directly to YOUR student’s classroom. Help keep Evergreen the wonderful school it is!
