Evergreen Weekly for September 11th
UPDATES AND INFORMATION
Open House: We are excited to invite you to our Open House on Friday, September 15, 3:30pm-4:40pm. You will have an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and see their classroom and the school. This is an informal “meet and greet;” feel free to come anytime during the hour timeframe.
Bikes and Scooters: We encourage our students to ride their bikes/scooters to school. During school hours, we ask that:
- Students entering schools grounds get off their bikes (scooters, skateboards etc.) and walk them to the bike racks – we have had a few “near misses” this week where classmates on bikes have accidentally hit students and scooters while on school grounds.
- Students wear helmets as they ride (as per Alberta Bike Helmet Legislation wherein individuals under the age of 18 must wear a safety helmet), and
- Students lock their bikes and scooters up outside to keep them secure.
We appreciate your support in reviewing these rules with your child and keeping the Evergreen School Community safe. Please see below bike safety tips for Alberta Health Services and a video on Bike Safety for kids.

Student drop-off: A reminder that student drop-off and pick-up in the staff parking lot is not allowed - unless you have an accessibility placard to use the accessible parking spot. Our parking lot is busy and many students cross it on their way to school in the morning.
Evergreen Parent Advisory Council Meeting: Parents/guardians can make a meaningful difference for students by participating on our school’s Parent Advisory Council. Under the School Act, a parent advisory council is a formal group of parents, incorporated under the Societies Act for raising funds for the school. A society is a separate legal entity from the school council. Many of the learning resources, residencies, field trips and performances that students use and participate in at Evergreen are funded through monies raised by our Parent Advisory Council. PAC’s first meeting of the year is this Wednesday, September 13th @ 5:30pm at the school. All families are welcome to attend.
Evergreen School Council Meeting: One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the School Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority. Our first School Council meeting of the year is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13th at 6:00pm. We invite all families to join the meeting and look forward to meeting some new faces to our Evergreen School Community.
Action Required | Complete Online Forms: Each year, schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online. In CBE, the forms in an online format (SchoolEngage) are:

- Citizenship Information Update - 2023-24 – This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
- Annual Authorization - 2023-24 – Combines the following forms:
- School District Use of Personal Information - explains how CBE uses personal information in providing education services.

If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).
