Evergreen Weekly for November 6th
Dear Evergreen Families,
What an amazing turn out and celebration of our residency with storyteller Jeff Stockton this past Thursday night! Thank you for joining us in an evening of storytelling, music, tug-of-war, imaginative and creative ideas and a lot of laughter. We hope you enjoyed creating stories and memories with your family and experienced the power of story through the eyes and ideas of your child.

Halloween Door Decorating Challenge: Mr. Lang’s grade 3 students put out a challenge to the rest of the school to compete in a Halloween Door Decorating Challenge this past week. Excitement spread across the school on October 31st as classes revealed their doors to Mrs. McPhee and Ms. Broomfield, the judges. Picking one winner was incredibly difficult and we had to narrow down the competitors to a Div. 1 winner and a Div. 2 winner.
Div. 1 winners: Grade 1 team for their “Down by the Bog” doors which had students working on spooky rhymes inspired by the song “Down by the Bay.” Key to their win was the interactive nature of their doors where you could pick a rhyme and then find the student’s illustration of it within the door design.
Div. 2 winner: Grade 5 Ms. Byrne’s class for their creative door which incorporated a variety of elements from technology, to humour, to student “missing persons” posters, to 3-D elements.
Winners will celebrate with a pizza party. To see all the door entries, please click the link below:

Come Volunteer With Us: We welcome volunteers in the classroom, on field trips and with certain tasks at the school or at home. Certain activities or field trips would not be possible without the active participation of our volunteers. As a CBE volunteer, you are placed in a position of trust with students and staff. All adult volunteers require a valid security clearance - no exceptions. Guest speakers or visitors to the school, and parents assisting their own child only are not considered to be volunteers, and do not require a security clearance.
Volunteer Security Clearance Process
Step 1: Prospective volunteers must first register as a volunteer at the school office. Ms. Coates will verify your identity and register you in the CBE volunteer database. The school office will provide you with a letter enabling you to obtain a police information check from the Calgary Police Service (CPS).
Please note, prospective volunteers must reside in Canada for a full year before registering. Police clearances from countries other than Canada are not accepted.
Step 2: Visit the CPS online system, electronic Police Information Check (ePIC), to obtain your police check using your CBE volunteer letter.
If you are unable to complete the process online, you may visit a police information check location instead.
Step 3: Once you have received your clearance document from CPS, you will need to share it with the school in-person or by email.
Cost
Your security clearance is valid for five years. The cost is $21.25 ($15.00 for police clearance and $6.25 service fee with GST) which is charged during the online ePIC application. This fee is not covered by the CBE.
Annual Volunteer Registration
Each school year you must complete the CBE volunteer registration form. By completing the form, you agree to abide by the conditions that protect the safety, confidentiality and working environment of our school. You also make a signed declaration with regard to criminal charges.
More Than a Ticket - Opportunity for students and families to attend events: Kids Up Front offers Calgary students and their families various opportunities to attend sports games, concerts and other events through the More Than A Ticket program. This program supports students and families, who may not have access to ticketed events, enjoy exciting concerts, performances and sports games throughout the year.
