Evergreen Weekly for November 20th

Dear Evergreen Families,

We are excited to be partnering with our Evergreen School Council to support the Calgary Food Bank this holiday season.  Evergreen students are encouraged to bring in a box (or more) of their favourite cereal starting on Monday, November 20th through to December 1st.  The grade that collects the most cereal boxes by Friday, December 1st will win a pizza lunch! Kindergarten and EES classes will be a team.

There will also be a box by the office for extra items that families may wish to donate. Examples of other items the Food Bank is looking for are: diapers, baby formula, pasta sauce, canned meat, canned vegetables, and canned beans (no glass jars). Cash donations can also be made at the office from November 27-December 1st in the Food Bank cash donation box.

Thank you for supporting the Calgary Food Bank during this time of need.

UPDATES AND INFORMATION

National Bullying Awareness and Prevention week: During this week we wanted to reaffirm our commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment at Evergreen School. Below please find excerpts from the CBE Bullying Awareness and Prevention framework.

Bullying is defined as the repeated, persistent, hostile or demeaning behaviour by an individual or group in the school community where the behaviour is intended to cause harm, fear or distress to one or more other individuals. This may include psychological harm (feelings or self-esteem) or harm to an individual’s body or reputation.  Bullying involves a real or perceived power imbalance based on factors such as size, strength, social power, economic status, religious beliefs, ethnic/cultural origin, race, family circumstances, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, disability or the receipt of special education. (Pg. 6, CBE Bullying Awareness and Prevention)

What is not considered bullying?

If behaviour is not based on a power imbalance, is not repeated and ongoing, is not hostile or demeaning, and/or is not intended to cause harm, fear or distress, then it is not considered bullying.
