Our teachers are deeply committed to student learning—right through to the end of the school year! As part of our ongoing professional development, teachers recently shared their progress as part of their teaching sprints, aligned with our School Development Plan goals.

A key focus this year has been supporting students’ linguistic and academic vocabulary development. It was both inspiring and affirming to hear about the thoughtful strategies teachers have used to build vocabulary in meaningful and engaging ways. Even more powerful were the pre- and post-assessment results, which showed significant gains in students’ understanding and use of discipline-specific vocabulary which is a foundational skill that strengthens comprehension across all subject areas.

Teaching Sprint

Research consistently highlights the importance of vocabulary knowledge in academic achievement. According to the National Reading Panel (2000), vocabulary is one of the key components of reading comprehension and a strong predictor of success in school.

We’re proud of the intentional work our teachers are doing to support every learner’s growth, and we look forward to building on this momentum in the new school year.

Yours in learning,
