Our school was buzzing with excitement this past Wednesday as the Grade 3 students unveiled their epic Mac & Cheese Domino Topple in our gathering space! With over 600 boxes of macaroni and cheese, they transformed everyday math concepts into a thrilling, hands-on experience that had the whole school cheering.
These young mathematicians applied their skills in measurement, geometry, and multiplication to design a domino course that wrapped around the school. They considered the size, weight, and center of gravity of each box, using floor tiles to estimate distances and calculate the number of boxes needed. Carefully planning turns, breaks, and joins, they also made sure to accommodate all 513 students in the audience.
It was an amazing display of creativity, collaboration, and real-world math in action—and of course, an unforgettable moment when the first box tipped and the entire chain reaction began! Thank you to our School Council for sponsoring this event!
Sincerely,
