Our Grade 4 students channeled their inner Rick Mercer to craft and deliver passionate persuasive rants aimed at making our school an even better place. Drawing on their learning about oral language, audience, and persuasive writing, students wrote and recorded their own “Rick Mercer-style” persuasive rants—complete with tone, pacing, visual cues, and strong points of view.
From improving traffic safety to having water fill station installed at Evergreen, students used well-reasoned arguments and thoughtful suggestions to persuade the me to consider their ideas. These persuasive rants not only showcased their creativity and confidence but also reflected key learning outcomes in English Language Arts and Literature curriculum, including organizing ideas for effect, using engaging language, and presenting to inform and persuade.
