Our Grade 1 students took a step back in time to experience a bit of pioneer life by learning how to make butter! As part of their Social Studies learning, students explored how families and communities of the past were different from today and appreciated how people contributed to their communities over time. They learned that in the past, many items, like butter, were made at home and often traded at the local store for goods such as sugar or flour. Students loved the hands-on experience of shaking cream into butter and imagining what life was like before modern conveniences. I loved tasting their delicious butter!
