In Grade 5, students are sharpening their writing and critical thinking skills through engaging persuasive writing activities and lively classroom debates. Recently, they’ve been exploring topics like whether kids should have cell phones or if students should be given homework. These activities provide rich opportunities to practice effective communication—students are learning to share ideas, solve problems, and make thoughtful decisions through collaborative dialogue. They are applying their growing vocabulary and grammar knowledge to write clear, convincing arguments tailored to specific audiences. As they analyze different viewpoints and reflect on what makes writing persuasive, they also explore how different text forms and structure, both digital and print, can enhance communication. These experiences help students become confident, thoughtful communicators, both in writing and in conversation.
